ZWEIFEL ALLGEMEINE

Lars Ø Ramberg’s newspaper ZWEIFEL ALLGEMEINE was published on the sixtieth anniversary of the end of World War I. The project draws on 350 headlines containing the word Zweifel, collected from German newspapers between January and May 2005. From this archive, twenty-four headlines were randomly selected and printed as ZWEIFEL ALLGEMEINE.

The first edition consisted of 5,000 copies.

The release was accompanied by numerous official commemorations. Then German chancellor Gerhard Schröder and former president Horst Köhler laid flowers at the Neue Wache, the war memorial on Unter den Linden in Berlin, while television stations broadcast live from ceremonies, concerts, and public speeches throughout the city. At the same time, political tensions escalated: 800 neo-Nazis attempted to march from Alexanderplatz toward Unter den Linden, where they were met by 4,000 anti-racist demonstrators. Around 2,000 special police forces were deployed to separate the groups. In the midst of the unrest, 600 demonstrators broke into the Palast des Zweifels and climbed onto the roof in protest.
